Campus Pedal Prix Performance 2007 - 2010

From tough times to more success...

2007 was another tough year for Campus Pedal Prix. We had a very wild and woolly race, both off and on the track but we still managed to achieve some spectacular results. The race was called off an hour before the end due to extreme stormy weather. Thermal Thunder was off the track for about an hour and a half due to a broken wheel and Silver Streak was on and off for about 4 hours due to accident damage. Thermal Thunder managed to come back from about 64th position to finish 15th. If it had not been off the track for so long, Thunder would certainly have beaten the previous Campus lap record and would almost certainly have ended in about 6th position, which would have also been a Campus record. A number of riders broke the 4 minute lap with the fastest being a campus record of 3:46, 12 seconds faster than the previous record set in 2006.

In 2008, we finally managed to complete the race without any major mechanical or accident related problems. Our first vehicle, Bridgestone Bullet, managed to complete 291 laps, a Campus record and once again finished in the top 10 and in our equal best position of 7th. Our fastest lap was only 2 seconds shy of the Campus record set in 2007. Fuming Fusion (named Silver Fusion this year - see 2008 summary for details) finished an amazing 33rd with the fastest rider only 2 seconds off the best time for a second car.

Late in 2009, we took delivery of our new bike which raced under the name of Bridgestone Bullet for the September race, and what a race it was. We were blessed with sunny dry conditions, after a brief overnight shower on the Friday night preceding the race. Bridgestone Bullet looked stunning as she took her place on the grid, along with a very proud starting rider. Campus records tumbled for Bullet and her riders, with the best ever placing for a Campus team (6th), most ever number of laps (307) - a record teams have been striving to achieve in the last 2 years, as well as shaving a whopping 10 seconds off the previous Campus record set in 2007. Silver Fusion riders should be very proud of their results as well, with all results rivalling those of all previous "second" bikes. These results are even more amazing if you factor in that this was the first time 14 of our riders had raced in a 24 hour race and on this beautiful Murray Bridge circuit. With 3 of our team heading off to high school in 2010, Campus potentially has a strong experienced team returning next year.

In 2010, we took delivery of our second new shell and chassis from Pinnacle. Our mechanic team had learned many lessons from building Bullet (renamed Rocket for 2010). Both new bikes underwnt an amazing transformation over the long break and emerged from their cocoons as amazing bikes, ready to take on the world. Our other existing bikes both had considerable work done on their chassis too to comply with new AIPP regulations for over head rider protection. Riders were all very excited to be able to ride our bikes. We were even able to field our first all girls team in July 2010 - the very pink Campus Concorde. Campus again broke records including fastest Category 1 laps for all three races, two first places (May and July) and two of our bikes finished overall in the top ten Cat 1. We also were awarded the Best Presented team award, recognising the hard work every one of our support team put into the preparation of our events. The best part of the year though, was the commitment and spirit of whole team - riders and parents - who pulled together when it mattered most and finished the races even when things got really tough. Overall in the primary school category, Screamer finished 3rd with Rocket in 9th, Streak in 28th and Concorde (did not race in September) in 32nd positions.
